Folian

Folian is the musical project of musician and multi-media artist Devan Fylstra. Formed in 2018 in Portland, Oregon, Folian has released debut LP Blue Mirror (January 2020, Anima Recordings), EP Ache Pillars (March 2019, Apneic Void Sounds) and the EP Mimicking Nothingness (2022, Anima Recordings). Often pinned as "doomgaze", the music merges elements of drone, shoegaze, black metal, and experimental noise, as well as visual transmissions, to create a uniquely contemplative and immersive experience.

Devan is founder and co-curator of Medicine for a Nightmare, an experimental record and multimedia label, as well as Anima Recordings which focuses on DIY & home/self-recorded artists. They are a member of guitar-wall drone duo Canadensis, and have collaborated as a member of bands such as Flood Peak, Ramprasad, Drowse, and The Stargazer Lilies. Folian now also features long-time collaborator Tom Asselin (Shifting Harbor) as a member.
