There are two bands using the name Lago: 1) Formed in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2010, LAGO is a four-piece force that fuses classic, punishing North American death metal with a dense, discordant, and suffocatingly dark atmospheric edge. Pulling inspiration from the dissonant heaviness of titans like Immolation and Gorguts, the band carved out an underground reputation with their crushing debut Tyranny (2014) and the bleak, blackened depths of Sea of Duress (2018). Following a period of lineup shifts and rebuilding, the band—comprising Cole Jacobsen, Gus Barr, Garrett Thomas, and Brian Miller—resurfaced with a modernized, surgically cold sound on their self-produced third album, Vigil (2026), cementing their status as one of the desert's most relentless and evolving extreme metal acts.
