History: SCREW (スクリュー) is a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in Tokyo in March 2006. Emerging during the mid-2000s boom of the visual kei scene, the band quickly established itself through an aggressive sound that blended hard rock, metal, and melodic elements, alongside an evolving aesthetic that moved from underground visual kei roots toward a more polished major-label presence.

SCREW expresses the concept that "everybody has darkness inside -- the poisonous chemicals of darkness have to be screwed out of the body." They were originally a four-piece band, but became a twin guitar band when Manabu joined in June 2007. At the start of 2010, their new bassist Rui (ex Ｊｅｗｅｌ joined the band, after their previous bassist Yuuto left the band in the beginning of the year.

They originally started out in March 2006 under Speeddisk label and was later signed to the 'Indie PSC' label of management agency PS COMPANY. Since 2012 they're signed to major label TOKUMA JAPAN COMMUNICATIONS. SCREW held their first live performance on April 23, 2006, at Takadanobaba AREA. Their earliest releases that same year included Ooki na Furudokei (PUNK SCREW ver.), Neji Reta Murasaki Sou, Nanairo no Hiyaenka, Nakushita Aoi Nami, Sakuran SCREAM, HEARTLESS SCREEN, and FINALE OF SCREW. These works established the group as a promising act within the independent visual kei circuit.

In June 2007, guitarist Manabu (マナブ) joined the band, helping solidify the lineup during a formative period. Shortly after, SCREW held the live event “Unknown shudder...” on June 29, 2007, again at Takadanobaba AREA. Releases such as Fusion of the core, VENOM, and Virus marked a heavier and more refined direction. They also participated in the Visual kei festival J-ROCK INVASION Vol. 1 in Germany alongside SuG, Kra, alice nine. and Kagrra,. Between 2008 and 2011, SCREW expanded their discography and reputation with a steady output of releases, including RAGING BLOOD, Wailing Wall, Gather Roses, RACIAL MIXTURE, X-RAYS, Cursed Hurricane, ANCIENT RAIN, DUALITY, DEEP SIX, and BRAINSTORM. During this period, bassist Yuuto (ゆうと) departed on December 31, 2009, and bassist RUI (ルイ) joined on February 9, 2010, ushering in a new era for the band. In 2012, SCREW released BIRAN and contributed to V-ANIME ROCKS!. On October 17, 2012, the band officially became a major act after signing with Tokuma Japan Communications. Their major debut release, XANADU, marked a significant milestone and introduced SCREW to a broader audience. In 2012 they also toured Europe: "SCREW - EU-Tour 2012 "Sasori".

The band celebrated its continued growth with annual anniversary concerts, including the 7th Anniversary “NEVERENDING BREATH” live at Shibuya AX on April 20, 2013, and the 8th Anniversary performance at Akasaka BLITZ on April 20, 2014. Around this period, they released key works such as SCREW, Teardrop, CAVALCADE, FUGLY, and PSYCHO MONSTERS. On December 28, 2014, bassist RUI departed the band following a performance at AiiA Theater Tokyo. Despite the lineup change, SCREW continued activities with releases including Konsui, Kakusei, and Brilliant.

In July 2016, the band announced their final tour, “BREATHE ONE'S LAST BREATH...,” which began on July 22 in Kumamoto and concluded on November 1, 2016, at Shibuya O-EAST (formerly ON AIR EAST). On that date, SCREW officially disbanded, bringing a decade-long career to a close.

A live release documenting their farewell performance, LAST LIVE TOUR 'BREATHE ONE'S LAST BREATH...' 2016.11.01 AT TSUTAYA O-EAST, was issued in February 2017, serving as the band’s final release. Over the course of their career, SCREW became recognized as one of the notable acts of 2000s and 2010s visual kei, remembered for their intense live performances, stylistic evolution, and consistent contribution to the modern Japanese rock scene.

In 2026 they announced their reunion which will start on April 23rd with two gigs on the same day at Akabane ReNY alpha called "SCREW 20th Anniversary LIVE～神化への赫青～". The line up was: Byou (Vocals), Kazuki (Guitar), Yuuto (Bass) Jin (Drums); Mizuki (Support guitar; from the THIRTEEN/Sadie (1st performance). For the 2nd performance they had Rui on Bass instead of Yuuto. They also announced a new line up for the future: Vocals: Byou, Guitar: Kazuki, Guitar: Yuuto, Bass: Rui, Drums: Jin. Yuuto surprisingly rejoined and switched to guitar while it was announced that Manabu does not join them for their reunion because he is too busy.
