Val Halla

(Not to be mistaken for any of the bands named Valhalla.)

Val Halla may refer to the stage name of Canadian singer/songwriter Valerie McLeod, or to the three-piece rock band she fronted in 2007 before adopting the name for her solo career.

The three-piece band also included Neil Towers and Tayo Branston of Vancouver afro-funk group Five Alarm Funk. Their music may be characterized as guitar-heavy rock with driving, soulful vocals, while the solo artist Val Halla's music has been described as "Janis Joplin meets Rickie Lee Jones" with "a bit of The Runaways".

Other influences include Hawksley Workman, Jann Arden, Amanda Marshall, Chantal Kreviazuk, Led Zeppelin, System of a Down, and Radiohead.
