Beschreibung

Svarun is a symphonic progressive metal act from Novi Sad, south-western Slavia, founded in October, 2008. The line-up consists of Nikola Pacek-Vetnić (music, orchestration, lyrics, drums, recording vocals), Đorđe Marković (vocals, graphics), Dragana Paunović (vocals, recording vocals, vocal coaching), and Marko Tatalović (sound design, mixing, production, recording guitars), backed up when needed by guest musicians.

Svarun was created out of the need for a quality metal ensemble capable of creating and performing music similar to what we usually listen to, thematically concentrated on the collective history of all Slavic nations, always stressing out the message of peace and brotherhood in our lyrics. Searching for the sound that would suit this purpose most, we came, on one end, to the contemporary metal music such as Symphony X, Therion, Kamelot, Adagio, while, at the same time, we were lead to the classical music of the past, written by authors such as Tchaikovsky, Gustav Mahler, Igor Stravinsky, and others. Also, in our belief that the metal genre is over-saturated by quasi-virtuoso instrumental music, we have emphasized the vocal element of music, thus we are one of the few bands that feature five singers in its line-up.

Prevailing theme in our music is overcoming personal and collective tragedy of today and achieving peace and tranquility within ourselves and in relationship with others, that is, we are focused around a positive humanistic message, intended above all, but not exclusively, to our brotherly Slavic nations, possibly the ones who bore the worst brunt of the misfortunes of the bygone century. By addressing themes from the Slavic history, the ones distant in time as well as almost contemporary ones, we inspect the crucial moments in our past (fratricide that lead Vladimir the Great to power (980.), fall of the fortress of Arkona (1168.), breakthrough at the Salonika front (1918.) that paved the way for the tragic unification of the South Slavs), searching for the source of our mishaps within them, stripping them of any reason or value, putting the human life and freedom above all else.

Svarun has had numerous live appearances so far, out which we would like to single out the ones on Guitar fest in Ratkovo, a competition of excellent organization and great prestige, and the one on DemoMasters7 festival, organized by Belgrade based Radio 202, a team of great professionals and the best of collaborators, where we played as special guests during the meeting of the jury. Also, our songs Krunidba and Meranija were featured on a compilation disc released by Nocturne Magazine Serbia, and thus were played on Belgrade based Radio 202.

It is our great pleasure to announce the beginning of the recording sessions for our first album, titled Slavija, which is to be published by Moscow based Nymphaea Records and will be comprised of 13 tracks, with total play time of almost 80 minutes. We would also like to thank our publishers for an enormous amount of understanding, for they have gave their consent for our album to be recorded entirely in Serbian, with an exception of two tracks we will record in Russian. Current news regarding the recording of Slavia will be regularly posted on our mySpace page, as well as the possibility of purchasing a disc once the album is published.
