Никола Атанасов

Atanassov, Nikola Kitanov was born in 1886 in Kyustendil. His musical education he accomplished in the Conservatory of Zagreb with prof. V. Novak, V. Ruzic., K. Junek and V. Humel (1906-1912). Between 1913 and 1922, N. Atanassov has been a teacher in Stara Zagora. Since 1924 until 1958 he has been a professor on theoretical subjects at the State Academy of Music in Sofia, and between 1935 and 1937 – its director. N. Atanassov is author of the first Bulgarian symphony. Among his works are three symphonies, two overtures - “Hristo Botev” – overture, 1928, “The Moan of the Forest” (1931), Trio for violin, bassoon and piano, Sonata for piano (1929), choral works. He died in 1969.
